The 2017 Caterpillar 279D is a versatile radial-lift compact track loader designed for construction, landscaping, agriculture, site development, material handling, utility work, and land clearing applications. Built to deliver exceptional traction, flotation, and lifting performance, the 279D combines Caterpillar's proven undercarriage design with advanced hydraulic capabilities and operator-focused comfort. Its compact dimensions and powerful performance make it one of the most popular machines in the mid-size compact track loader class. Powered by a Cat C3.3B DIT turbocharged diesel engine, the 279D produces 74.3 gross horsepower (55.4 kW) and approximately 72.9 net horsepower (54.4 kW). The 3.3-liter four-cylinder engine meets Tier 4 Final emissions requirements while delivering excellent fuel efficiency, responsive performance, and strong low-end torque for demanding applications. Peak torque reaches approximately 195 lb-ft (265 Nm) at 1,500 RPM, providing ample power for digging, grading, and attachment operation. The machine has an operating weight of approximately 10,095pounds and features a radial-lift loader design that excels in digging, grading, and ground-engaging applications.
